This morning, bright and early Caden had tubes put in his ears. We were worried because he had a slight fever Tuesday and early Wednesday morning that they would not do the procedure. We took him to the doctor Wednesday morning and she said it was just a cold but to call the ENT to make sure everything was still a go. The nurse called back and said everything was still a go for the surgery and the Dr. even called me at 9pm last night to make sure that Caden was feeling alright and to let me know what to watch out for that would indicate needing to cancel. How many doctors call you to just check up on things especially in the evening?
So we got up at 4am this morning and so did Caden because he was hungry. We could not give him anything to eat or drink so we just took turns distracting from 4 until his surgery. We had to be there at 5:30am. Crazy early for Chris. I am a little more used to being awake at those hours. Caden enjoyed looking at all the stuff in the room we were in waiting for him to go back to surgery. He had to explore the bed to see if he could figure out what all the levers were for. There was a picture of an elephant on the wall that he thought was hilarious. Just as soon as we finally got him to go back to sleep they came in and gave us some motrin to give him before they took him back. Of course that work him because it reminded him he was still hungry. He just kept reaching for whichever parent was not holding him. Chris and I decided it was because he was trying to see if the other parent would feed him. He just could not believe that his mommy and daddy were so stupid as to forget that he needed a bottle.
When the nurse came to take him back to surgery he was all smiles. It is a good thing he has no stranger anxiety. The doctor came back out not to long after and said everything went great. Caden came back all smiles and had an even bigger smile when mommy gave him a bottle. His expression was, "at last, the crazy people remember I need a bottle." We noticed is ears bleeding a little more than we thought they should so we asked the doctor the next time he walked by and he came in and checked them. He said that yes it was more than he expected but not dangerous. He stopped it up with some Afrin and then we went home. At home though Caden's ear kept bleeding. I called the doctor's office and he called me back and had me put some more afrin in Caden's ear. It stopped the bleeding but the awesome thing was that he called back two more times to check on Caden. Do you know any other doctor that does that? So other than that the day went well.
Caden enjoyed a long weekend at home with his Grandma. She came on Thursday and went shopping with him on Friday. They shared some McDonalds. On Saturday they went to the Outlet mall and on Sunday Caden was really nice and took a long nap in the afternoon for me and Chris. Today, though, Chris called me at school and said when he went to get Caden his ear was all bloody. Chris said he was calling the doctor and would let me know. We ended up taking Caden in and thankfully nothing was really wrong. He just was having bleeding from a clot and still has a great deal of infected fluid coming out through the tube. The doctor sucked it out with this machine and put some medicine in and told us to keep putting the antibiotic drops in his left ear. He said that Caden had a great deal of infected fluid but that it wasn't the worst he had ever seen but still pretty bad. After cleaning him out and everything he said we shouldn't have any more problems but he could still have some blood tinted drainage.
So Caden and I came home and Chris went back to work. We are having a fun afternoon together. He has been signing milk to me but I am not sure he has it completely associated with milk. We will see. I haven't tested it fully.
