We took Caden in very early Wednesday morning. We had to be there at 5:45am. He was very very good. We kept him distracted from the fact that he couldn't eat or drink and Dell Childrens does an awesome job helping with that. Any waiting rooms for children ask that you do not have food or drink because most procedures don't allow kids to eat before hand. We spoke to all the nurses and all the doctors before hand. Then they carried Caden back to do the surgery a little after 7. They do not put the IV in until they are already sleep. So they do not have any pain. They came and got us about 7:50 to go back and talk with Dr. Kahn after the surgery. Dr. Kahn said it all went very well. His adenoids were large and covered with a slimy film. He checked everything out and said the rest of his sinus' looked pretty clear. Then they sent us back out to wait for Caden to get into recovery. When Caden was in recovery Chris went back first. Chris said he cried quite a bit. I went back a little later and Chris went back to waiting room. Poor kid just seemed totally out of it but then suddenly was wide awake. When a room opened Chris came back and we all went upstairs together. We got Caden out of the crib and just let him sit with us for awhile. He wanted to play so they brought us some toys and he played. We ordered him some lunch and he ate a little of it and then passed out. Chris went and grabbed us some lunch when he came back we ate quickly and then we took a nap too.
After his nap he got a dose of IV antibiotics which take an hour to go through and then he got be unhooked from the IV pole. We wandered all over the hospital. It is really wonderful. Everyone there just smiles and laughs. They don't treat kids like they are in the way at all. They are so caring. It is wonderful. After we walked all over we went back to the room and ordered Caden his dinner. He had a bath after dinner and we played. I almost had him asleep when Dr. Kahn came by to visit which got Caden all excited again. He stayed awake until after nine. We finally got him to sleep but it was not easy.
We ended up pulling him into bed with us because he woke up screaming at 4. He went back to sleep but the nurse was worried when she came in to check his vitals. We told her he was with us. Then they came in a little later and started his next infusion of antibiotics. Then he had breakfast. We took him with us to the cafeteria while we had breakfast and then we went and played in the playroom. He was so cute in the playroom. He played with all sorts of different toys but the funniest was the baby dolls. He first brought them to me. Then I put them back and he found them again later and took them to Daddy. Chris put them back. Caden brought him another one. Chris started holding it and said that the baby needed milk. Caden immediately took the baby back. We laughed and told him he should share so he brought the baby back and got his milk and tried to give it to the baby. It was so cute. The rest of the day just sort of went by with more antibiotics, food, naps, etc.
Dr. Fernandez came by and told us his blood work came back mostly okay but he had no antibodies to a vaccine he has already had three doses of, which is unusual. This is the bacteria he keeps catching and getting so sick from too. She wants him to have another dose of the vaccine and then in 6 weeks we will run labs again. Hopefully he will have antibodies. His body does know how to produce antibodies because it produced antibodies to the other vaccinations he has had. If he doesn't get antibodies we will have to talk. We don't what it really means yet. I think she didn't want to worry us. Dr. Kahn came by to check on Caden and gave permission for him to go home. It was so sweet because Caden walked over and gave him a big hug. Anyway...that is about all for now.
